Off-grid living

I’ve lived off-grid since 2020…
near Joshua Tree, on a mountain top in southern Oregon, and on a sailing catamaran.

Power and Water

Off-grid means water catchment, supplemented by filling up some jugs in town. Our home came with a 2009 Outback solar and battery system that is still performing like a champ. We use a separate battery for our induction cooktop, and have a solar oven for daytime cooking.

Cooking off-grid

I’m so excited to no longer be using fossil fuels to cook! We have an EcoFlow battery that we charge with mobile solar panels (it was our supplemental solar system for the boat) and we run the induction cook stove off of it.

It takes about 25% to make some perogi/ravioli and a veggie/salami mix to toss them in. We also have a solar oven that I’m using for things that take a long time to cook, like potatoes, rice, and baking.
