I grew up in metro Detroit. Funded my own education. Built a startup from nothing, raised venture capital, spoke at two White House events, and was named Forbes 30 Under 30 before 30. Then Elon Musk told me good job and I still couldn't shake the feeling that something was off.

The years that followed were the most instructive of my life. I learned how to forage for chickweed, how to live on $432 a month, how to leave when leaving is the only right move, and how to rebuild without performing the rebuilding. I'm still building. Most of it is working.
